The Hales Franciscan Alumni Association is committed to preserving the rich heritage and cherished memories of our beloved alma mater, despite its closure. Our mission is to honor the legacy of our school by fostering a vibrant and enduring community among its former students, faculty, and supporters.

Through meaningful connections, shared experiences, and collaborative initiatives, we aim to celebrate our past, support one another in the present, and pave the way for a bright future, keeping the spirit of Hales Franciscan alive for generations to come.

About the Hales Franciscan Alumni Association

The Hales Alumni Association was re-established in 2006 by Ms.Shirley Spriggs who was at the time administrative assistant to board president of the HFAA Board Bob Anderson. Ms. Spriggs saw the importance of having a way to connect former students to our Alma mater as well as each other. Although Hales Franciscan permanently closed in 2019 the goal of the HFAA is to continue the rich legacy of our dear Almater by creating ways to acknowledge and honor our members and the community.

It’s because of the work Ms. Spriggs put forth we can now redirect our focus to solely focusing on the Alumni and their families. We endeavor to establish ways to support one another and stay connected as we continue to keep the Brotherhood of Hales Franciscan Alive through its Alumni. Unto Perfect Manhood.

Our board is dedicated to the betterment of our alumni and their community

David Christopher Thomas

President

David graduated from Hales in 1983 and has a B. A. degree in applied psychology/nonprofit leadership from Loyola University of Chicago and has a masters in sports management from Northwestern University.

James Warren

Vice President & Treasurer

James is a 1981 graduate of Hales Franciscan High School. James has served as the Vice President and Treasurer since 2018. He believes the education he received at Hales prepared him for life after graduation.

Michael Smith

Director

Michael is a 1979 graduate of Hales Franciscan, He is a dedicated public servant, esteemed community member, and loving family man. With a career spanning over three decades in the Chicago Fire Department.

James W. Smith

Director

James is a graduate of the class of 1985, He is a dedicated and passionate board member of the alumni community, he is committed to fostering connections and advancing the mission and the legacy of Hales Franciscan.

Brandon Davis

Director

Brandon Davis is a graduate of the class of 2002, he has served as a board member and former HFAA president.

Shirley Spriggs

Ms. Spriggs has functioned as the Alumni secretary since 2006 the same year that she re-established the association. Ms. Spriggs truly embraces her role as secretary and she is committed to our esteemed graduates.
